Things I Amplify from the web

Covering Stockholm Marathon

I'm heading in to town with my camera to practice some action photography. Now the questions is where along the course will I find the best spot to capture both runners and the scenic views of the city.

Amplifyd from www.stockholmmarathon.se
Scenic course

It is basically a two-lap course through the central parts of Stockholm. The surroundings vary from the woods of the Royal park "Djurgården" to the streets of a big city. The course passes buildings such as the Royal Palace, the City Hall, the Royal Opera and the Houses of Parliament. The course is one of the most scenic in the world. Much of the race is run along beautiful waterways.
When passing the "Västerbron" bridge, the runners will enjoy a fantastic view over a city with buildings ranging in age from the medieval times to the present day. The difference in altitude between the highest and the lowest point of the course is 29 meters.

The finish
The race will finish in the world famous stadium built for the 1912 Olympic Games.
The Olympic Stadium has been the site of numerous memorable athletic performances, with no less than 83 officially recognised world records in track and field. There is no other arena anywhere in the world that comes close to that number.
The 1912 Olympic Stadium is truly a classic venue for athletics.

Vagina in the sink - Family Guy

And that's why I love Famil Guy!

The difference between me and you

I had a very interesting argument with a random guy on Google Buzz last night. An argument that resulted in me stopping being the nice modest guy that I am and ending the conversation in a bad mood and for being me, a quite pissy way. It's easy to forget that depending on where in the world we live, we have different opinions and views on things and one of the greatest qualities you can inherit as a person, is to understand that. This chap didn't.

Now, I see myself as someone who take different perspectives in to consideration, someone who has the ability to see both sides of the coin without drawing any assumptions or jumping to conclusions. I try not to judge people I don't know. This chap judged me almost straight away and refused to even ponder my side of the coin.

The argument was about the events in the Middle East and Ship to Gaza. Now, this chap was American so sure, I understand that we have different views on things, but he made it very clear from the start that he had a quite serious condition of hate towards Muslims. It was so obvious and nasty that it made me really scared. I don't know if that is something common in the States, the suspicion towards everything Muslim. Another guy joined in the argument and said that I supported the terrorists in Gaza by supporting human rights activists who wanted to make a political stand by shipping supplies to the needing.

I don't know, but in my (fantasy) world, all Muslims aren't terrorists. Here's a difference - these two guys thought differently. Helping the needing in Gaza was the same thing as supplying the terrorists. And that is a disturbing way to see things. He also "warned" me of the growing Muslim community we have in Sweden indicating that probably all of them are Muslim radicals.

I can't stand this kind of hatred and immoral behavior. I can't stand it when people generalize like this. I can't stand it when people show no empathy or understanding. People who talk about "the Western world" as if it was the best world and the only alternative, have a lot to learn. People who can't see the two sides of the coin.

I wonder if this is a difference between people or if it's a difference between different corners of the world. It's no secret that the US has a hostile approach to Islam. I say that the real danger and threat to a better world, is when people become too blinded to see the real problem. And the real problem isn't Islam, Israel, Palestine, terrorism etc - the real problem is that we, the modern man, have lost all sense of moral and let greed and hate control our actions. Terrorism is born out of that. Conflicts are born out of that. Inhumanity is born out of that. Famine is born out of that. And you find more of this in the Western world than in the Eastern.

Balcony with a view

When I stand on my balcony I get the feeling I am someplace else. This concrete building from the 60s with its many apartments, is in summer time everything but what it really is: a worn down ugly housing complex. I like my balcony in the summer. I have sun from noon to late evening and I can sit for hours gazing in the sunshine. The downside is that sound travel quite easily around here. Kids playing in the backyard sounds as if they are just outside my bedroom. Not to mention the couple in the apartment above...

New Facebook privacy controls…

...just went live on my profile. Coolness.

Controlling How You Share
Facebook is about sharing. Our privacy controls give you the power to decide what and how much you share. Learn how to manage who can see your information on and off Facebook. See what's new
The settings you choose control which people and applications can see your information. You can share your information with friends, friends of friends or everyone, and we offer presets to help you do that. Or, if you prefer, you can customize your settings.
Privacy Settings page
  • Sharing on Facebook
This section controls who can see all the content you post on a day-to-day basis (such as status updates, photos and videos). It also includes some things you share about yourself (birthday and contact information) and content others share about you (comments on your posts and photos and videos you've been tagged in). Set these now with one click, and your settings will apply to all the day-to-day content you post in the future. "Customize settings" displays a full list so you can control the privacy level for each setting.
  • Basic Directory Information
Certain information is visible to everyone because it's essential to helping people find and connect with you on Facebook.
    • Name and profile picture are visible to everyone so real-world friends can recognize you, and so we can display them when you write on someone's Wall.
    • Gender is public so we can correctly display your gender (for example, "Add her as a friend.")
    • Networks are visible to everyone so you can see who else is part of your network (and will have access to your information) before choosing "Friends and Networks" for any of your privacy settings.
Other information in this section, including hometown and interests, is visible by default to help friends and other people you have things in common with connect with you.
  • Applications and Websites
This section controls what information is shared with websites and applications, including search engines (applications and websites you and your friends use already have access to your name, profile picture, gender, networks, friend list, user ID, and any other information you share with everyone). You can view your applications, remove any you don't want to use, or turn off platform completely. Turning off platform means you won't be able to use any platform applications or websites and we won't share your information with them.
  • Block Lists
This section lets you block people from interacting with you or seeing your information on Facebook. You can also specify friends you want to ignore application invites from, and see a list of the specific applications that you've blocked from accessing your information and contacting you.
  • Additional Controls

  • Recommended settings
We offer a group of recommended settings as a default. You can think of "Everyone," "Friends of Friends" and "Friends Only" as big buckets containing different groups of information. With our recommended settings, your information is distributed across all three buckets. "Everyone" contains status updates and information that people may want to share with a larger audience. "Friends of Friends" includes photos and videos of you, which are often relevant to friends of your friends. "Friends Only" includes all of your contact information and things that are only relevant to people you interact with directly.
  • Control each time you post
You can control who sees each and every post. Before you post a status update, link or anything else, click the lock icon to choose who can see it. What you select will override your "Posts by me" setting, which acts as the default.
  • Control with applications
Applications can only see information you've already made visible to everyone. To access more, applications have to ask for permission for each piece of information, and it can only be information that's needed for them to work.
  • Control for what you're tagged in
You control who can see the photos and videos you're tagged in that appear on your profile. Keep in mind, the owner of a photo can still share that photo with people you're not friends with, so remove the tag from the photo or video if you don't want that to happen.
  • Advertisers
We never share your personal information with our advertisers. Facebook's ad targeting is done entirely anonymously. If advertisers select demographic targeting for their ads, Facebook automatically matches those ads to the appropriate audience. Advertisers only receive anonymous data reports.
  • Information available to everyone
Information you've shared with everyone - as well as your name, profile picture, gender and networks - could be seen by anyone on the internet. Please be aware that it will be visible to anyone viewing your profile, and applications and websites you and your friends use will be able to access it.
  • Social plugins
Buttons and boxes containing Facebook content may appear on other websites to create more social experiences for you. The sites you're visiting receive none of your information. The content in these social plugins comes directly from Facebook. If you click "Like" or make a comment using a social plugin, your activity will be published on Facebook and shown to your Facebook friends who see a plugin on the same site. The things you like may also appear on your profile (you can control this in Basic Directory Information).
  • Instant personalization
Some select partner sites may access your information to personalize your experience as soon as you arrive, but only information that's already visible to everyone. You can turn off instant personalization for specific sites or you can turn it off completely from the Applications and Websites page. This will prevent these partners from receiving your information through instant personalization, including what's visible to everyone.
  • Search
"Public search" on the Applications and Websites page controls whether people who enter your name in a search engine will see a preview of your Facebook profile. It also controls whether things you've specifically chosen to share with everyone show up in searches on and off Facebook.
  • Protecting minors
We are committed to protecting minors who use Facebook. Until their eighteenth birthday, minors don't have public search listings created for them, and the visibility of their information is limited to friends of friends and networks, even if they've chosen to make it available to everyone. This does not apply to name, profile picture, gender and networks, which are visible to everyone so real-world friends can recognize them.

    “A slingshot! Aim to kill!”

These activists on Ship to Gaza must have been a real threat. Heck they had flares, gas masks and slingshots! Perhaps that's why Israel used the force needed, I mean, slingshots are never a good sign in combat. After all, Goliath was beaten by one...

Photos of the Mavi Marmara’s Equipment and Weapons, 1 June 2010

On Monday, May, 31, 2009, IDF soldiers attempted to board the Mavi Marmara ship in order to redirect it to the Port of Ashdod. The activists on board had planned an assault on the soldiers boarding the ship, and a battle ensued. Soldiers reported that the passengers used knives, metal rods, firebombs, and other weapons to attack the forces as soon as they boarded the ship.

Below are photos of various materials on the boat. This is photographic evidence of the weapons as well other equipment found on the Mavi Marmara including: metal rods, slingshots, knives, smoke torches, wrenches, electric saws, gas masks, and molotov cocktails. Memorial day is over…

...and not being American it feels more or less natural to me to honor those who died by the hands of the soldiers tricked into "fighting for their country". Because that's how I roll...

    This made my day

    Kudos!

    Wild Strawberry

I like strawberries but I like wild strawberries even more. Too bad they are so small. Anyhoo, this is a wild strawberry that I found in a backyard a couple of days ago. It looked sad.
